Team of the Week – 23/02/15

Here’s Russ with Team of the Week for game week 26 of The Premier League.

So here’s my team if the week. Special mentions for Ivanovic who has probably been the leagues most consist defender for bloomin’ ages, and a goal to boot.
Also, what a difference a Toure makes. Struggling City suddenly find 5 goals and a much needed win not long after the return of king Toure from the African cup of nations. A coincidence? I don’t think so.
And, Harry Kane might just be the greatest English footballer since the last one we all got excited about. But good. And with goals to back it up.

Team of the Week – 12/02/15

Here’s Mike’s Team of the week for the midweek fixtures, game week 25. Enjoy!

Green ( QPR ) GK
He was in fine form and helped his side claim their first away win, the one save he pushed on to the bar was top class.

Can ( Liverpool ) Cb
A midfielder playing in a back three makes no sense but in the past couple of games he has been outstanding. He is strong, quick and can tackle and seems to have found regular game time at the back.
Ferdinand ( QPR ) Cb
The veteran defender has had a new lease of life since Harry has left and the performance showed class’s is permeant.
Koscielny ( Arsenal ) Cb
He is becoming Arsenal’s lead defender, good feet my say he lacks some pace but he popped up and scored with a clever finish.
Janmaat ( Newcastle ) Wb
He was up and down the flank all game. Sound in his defensive duties and also a great cross for the Newcastle goal.
Trippier ( Burnley ) Wb
Same as Janmaat up and down from your wing back is what you want and he also chipped in with an assist, gave his side such balance in a game Burnley should have got more out of.

Fletcher ( WBA ) Cm
It’s simple WBA and Tony Pulis are a great fit, throw Darren Fletcher into the mix as captain and you have the perfect Hat-trick.
Mahrez ( Leicester ) Cm
He pulled Arsenal all over the place and was a real positive, if the foxes are going to pick up points they need him playing on a regular basis.
Ozil ( Arsenal ) Cm
On his return he has scored three and did some assists and with Sanchez taking some of the spot light off him maybe we will see the form that made him one of the best players in the world.

N’Doye ( Hull ) Fw
He gave the Villa back line a torrid time, scored a decent goal and also won man of the match, not bad for your home debut.
Aguero ( Man City ) St
What more can be said about this little magician, when he is in this type of form he is unplayable, he had no right to score his first from that angle or distance but that’s why he is world class.

Team of the Week – 09/02/15

Here’s this weeks team of the week courtesy of Ollie…

GK: De Gea (Man Utd) – several crucial saves with lots of different body parts, kept united in the game

LB: Cresswell (West Ham) – constant threat and solid in defence, gave Valencia problems.

CB: Bruce (Hull) – been out of the team for long periods Because his dad thinks he’s abit rubbish and afraid of nepotism. Made some crucial interceptions and blocks.

CB: Kouyate (West Ham) – recently back from AFCON , usually a midfielder but the former Anderlecht man filled in well at CB, had Falceo in his pocket and topped his performance off with a fine skilful finish.

RB: Invanovic (Chelsea) – he can play all across the back four (playing at his preferred RB this weekend) Cissoko couldn’t handle him and he scored a fine goal on the half volley.

CDM: Henderson (Liverpool) – commanding physical performance in a tough atmosphere, steadied the ship at times whilst playing some incisive balls forward. A shoe in for the next Liverpool captain.

CDM: Song (West Ham) – once again shut down an opposing midfield, made some crucial interceptions and was a dominating presence against Rooney and Di Maria. Won’t be in east London next season.

CAM: Mane (Southampton) – has scored a lot of goals from inside forward positions for previous teams and has started too trouble premier league defences with tricks, pace and directness. Injury time winner.

LW: Ibe (Liverpool) – had a solid loan spell for Derby during the first half of the season scoring 5 goals, second start for Liverpool, big stage and he didn’t disappoint, hit the post from distance.

RW: Willian – (Chelsea) – Worked hard in defence and attack, created chances, Cuadrado will struggle to oust him.

ST: Kane (Spurs) – Two goals, always a threat, fan favourite, the inform English striker at the moment, what can’t this lad do. He’s one of our own.

Shaw – His evolution at United continues with a further demonstration of his attacking abilities.
Morrison – A couple of goal line clearances capped off a captains performance.
Zouma – A calm and steady head on such young shoulders. Further justification of Cahill’s omission.
Bellerin – Great attacking performance from the young full back with a goal as a cherry on top.
Shelvey – Controlled the midfield and what a goal.
Coutinho – Again demonstrated his intelligence with the ball and two assists for good measure.
Ozil – A comeback of sorts against an admittedly absent Villa midfield but a solid performance non the less.

Team of the Week – 20/01/15

Mike gives us his picks for the Cleanpairofshorts Premier League team of the week…

Rojo: After his big money move and his share of injuries, Rojo came into the side and was solid against one the leagues most in form marks men, so maybe this is the performance to kick starts his United career.

Willian: The headlines will naturally go to Fabregas for his assets and Oscar for his goals but in my view Willian’s display was near perfect, he was strong in his defensive duties and also being another creative genius at the business end, should of scored but the post and the bar had other ideas.

Gayle: When you are fighting to stay in the league a cool head in front of goal is vital and this young man had just that, has a knack of scoring goals when his side desperately needs one or two and he could be the difference that keeps Palace up.
